MicroTouch Device Configuration Policy
Understanding original factory configurations and why MicroTouch does not convert devices between custom and standard configurations.
Factory Configuration Policy for MicroTouch Devices
MicroTouch devices are supported in the configuration in which they originally left our factory or configuration center. The original configuration remains the device’s designated configuration for the life of the product. MicroTouch does not provide conversions between custom and standard product configurations.
This policy applies regardless of whether a device was purchased new, used, through a reseller, or through a liquidation or any secondary-market sale.
Why a device may have a custom configuration
Some MicroTouch devices are manufactured or configured for a specific customer, application, or deployment. These devices may include a customized operating system, provisioning environment, device-management integration, or other software or hardware modifications.
A device’s appearance or base model number does not necessarily mean it has the same configuration as a standard MicroTouch product. A custom suffix or other identifying information such as a service tag may distinguish it from the standard configuration.
Requests to change the original configuration
MicroTouch does not provide or authorize the release of firmware, operating-system images, recovery packages, flashing tools, or instructions for converting a device from a custom configuration to a standard MicroTouch configuration, from a standard configuration to a custom configuration, or otherwise changing its designated original configuration.
This policy also applies to requests submitted through a distributor, reseller, or service partner. Proof of purchase, a change in ownership, or the technical possibility of a conversion does not change the policy.
What assistance can MicroTouch provide?
For requests to change a device’s original configuration, MicroTouch’s assistance is limited to providing instructions for performing a factory reset using the device’s available reset options.
Please refer to the appropriate guide:
- Android: Factory Resetting the Mach Android Series
- Windows: How to Reset Your MicroTouch Mach Windows AIO
A factory reset does not convert a device between custom and standard configurations. Custom provisioning or device-management settings may remain or reappear after the reset.
If reset options are unavailable or restricted by a custom configuration or device-management system, MicroTouch does not provide tools, firmware, or instructions to bypass those restrictions.
Will a factory reset restore standard MicroTouch software?
Not necessarily. A factory data reset is not a conversion to a standard MicroTouch configuration. Depending on the device’s original configuration, a reset may retain or return the device to a customized setup, provisioning, or management environment.
The term “factory reset” does not mean that customer-specific software or configuration will be replaced with standard MicroTouch software.
What should I do if I purchased a device secondhand?
If the device’s configuration does not meet your needs or differs from the seller’s description, contact the seller to discuss available options, including a return or refund.
For questions about an existing organization’s management or provisioning environment, contact the seller or the organization responsible for that environment. MicroTouch does not provide tools or firmware to remove or bypass it.
